Hello!
My name is Yuh Wen (she/her), and I am a public servant, coach, facilitator, and speaker. My passion is supporting leaders from BIPOC, immigrant, working class, and first-gen backgrounds to break free from family, cultural, and societal expectations in order to tap into their own power, purpose, and joy.As we navigate the "in-between" of the before-pandemic times and the new normal of life, clarity (whether as a state-of-being or an aspiration) is more important than ever.I look forward to connecting with you.
Work
I believe that the most important relationship that you’ll have in life is the relationship that you have with yourself. Getting to know yourself - your values, behaviors, purpose, and sensemaking - is one of the most rewarding endeavors you’ll ever undertake. I support individuals and organizations by providing the following services:
- 1-on-1 coaching (specialties: leadership, first-generation, career clarity and transitions, new managers, impostor syndrome, money mindset, adult development, conflict management, clear communication)
- Group or team coaching
- Workshops customized for a specific purpose and delivery to your team or organization
- Organizational retreat design and facilitation
- Consulting (e.g., DEI, organizational development, non-profit operations support and research projects, etc.)
- Speaking engagements
If you're curious about this work and looking for someone to partner with, let's connect and chat. If you're wondering what coaching is about and what might be possible for you, let's definitely connect and chat.
About
I was born in Singapore before people knew about the crazy rich Asians and raised on the Jersey Shore by mild-mannered working class Asians, so I grew up with an appreciation for disciplined societies and Bruce Springsteen, as well as an affinity for chicken rice and chicken parm. A recovering Type-A robot, I'm a product of my ancestors, first-gen (technically 1.5 gen!) experiences, continuous self-work and learning, guided by the best teacher of all - life. After working in public finance investment banking in Chicago and public health in Europe and Asia, I entered the Federal civil service where I've served for over 10 years. I am energized by service outside of my "9-to-5", and one of the most significant ways I serve is in my "5-to-9" job as a trained coach and facilitator. I've been doing that work under the moniker of all americanese coaching and consulting since 2015."all americanese" is how I best describe myself as a naturalized American citizen who deeply appreciates my place within the ethnic Chinese diaspora and learning from others' cultures and histories. It's also a shout-out to growing up working in my parents' Chinese take-out restaurant. Because, as Jennifer 8 Lee infers, General Tso's Chicken is about as American as apple pie.I currently live on the unceded land of the Nacotchtank (Anacostan) people known as Washington, DC. On any given day, you'll find me reading and/or indulging in my podcast habit. In the pre-pandy times, I loved travel and improv comedy (I think I still love those things...?). I'm remain ever-ready to eat my way through the DC suburbs or philosophize over sports.
I am trained and experienced in several modalities to support my clients, including:
- Ontological life coaching (Accomplishment Coaching Coach Training Program, 2015)
- Certified Professional Diversity Coach (Coach Diversity Institute, 2018)
- Growth Edge Coaching (Cultivating Leadership, 2020-2021)
- Leading Inclusively (Cultivating Leadership, 2020)
- Conflict Coaching (Conflict Coaching Matters LLC, 2020-2021)
- New Leaders Council (NLC) LEAD Facilitator (2015-present)
- YogaWorks 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training (2020)
I am also an earnest student of adult development theory (described here by Jennifer Garvey Berger), yoga (with Chrissy Carter), and Buddhism (with Rev. Keiryu Liên Shutt and in the Plum Village Tradition of Zen Master Thích Nhất Hạnh). These teachings (and teachers) and my clients all inspire my daily practices and coaching approach.
